Glued Panels

Glued Panels

Hardwood glued panels are increasingly gaining importance as an alternative to other derived timber products in the interior fixtures and furniture manufacturing sectors, particularly with regards to high-grade products.

Lafor’s hardwood glued panels have firmly established themselves in this area because they fulfill all the necessary visual and technical standards. Carefully graded face strips are a guarantee that boards have an attractive, consistent, and even appearance.

The gluing process means that the raw material that is the hardwood timber keeps all of its natural features and, additionally, is rendered more stable and more durable.

Furthermore, the edge-glued timber continues to have the natural characteristics of solid wood, but the reaction to swelling, shrinkage, warping, and bowing, is minimized by a proper machining and gluing process. Despite that, severe fluctuations in temperature and humidity can cause reactions, as mentioned earlier.

Glued panels - Applications

Furniture boards, table and kitchen worktops, workbench boards, stair-treads/steps, stair-strings, handrails and risers, cheek boards, construction boards, shelf bottoms, door-casing- and door-frames, window-sills.

B/B grade

- Side A: small strips of red heart allowed (beech wood), free of knots, natural discolorations, sapwood strips allowed for oak

- Side B (bottom side): red heart allowed, small pin knots, natural stains, sapwood allowed for oak, putting allowed.

B/C grade

- Side A: small strips of red heart allowed (beech wood), free of knots, natural discolorations, sapwood allowed for oak

- Side B (bottom side): red heart allowed, small knots, natural stains, sapwood allowed for oak, putting allowed

C/C grade (red heart panels)

- Side A: beech naturally colored, sound red heart decoratively wanted, discolorations allowed, knots and mineral strike.

- Side B (bottom side): beech naturally colored, sound red heart decoratively wanted, discolorations allowed, knots and mineral strikes, putting allowed.

Glue

Only high quality and branded glue class D3 – according to EN 204 is used to glue up our panels. Examples of applications are indoor areas with the regular, short-term impact of draining off water or condensed water and/or high humidity (kitchen tops, butcher blocks). For outdoor applications, sheltered from atmospheric conditions, we use D4 class or polyurethane glue. For outdoor applications (stair treads, decking), we provide a particular molding profile to enhance the gluing strength. Please inquire for details.

Moisture

By the time the panels are ready for delivery, the moisture is 8 +/- 2%. This is the equilibrium moisture content of panels used under normal circumstances in environments with a temperature range of 20°C and 55% humidity.

Storage

Transportation or storage can lead to moisture absorption of the panels. It is of utmost importance to take care of constant climatic conditions during storage and processing. Storage should be done in closed, neither too dry nor too moist rooms. Panels should be covered and laid on flat surfaces. Take into consideration that shrinkage – and swelling is in a range of approximately 0,6% per 1% change in moisture. Hence it is recommended to provide acclimatization to the new environment before starting further processing.

Lead-time

The standard size and grade panels: approx. 2-3 weeks. Particular dimensions and species: approx. 4-5 weeks.
